For my personal trailer I Have had both a Mac and and currently run a Reitnouer. I purchased the Mac new in 14 and was a great trailer until the frame started cracking. Not gonna blame Mac as much as the dealer in Birmingham that mounted the boxes. The cracks all started from the bolt holes holding the side boxes. Traded it in last year for a Transcraft Combo that one of my drivers pull.
In 18 purchased a new Reitnouer Big Bubba for myself. I had one issue with the thick pieces of Aluminum angle that bolt the frame to the axles. Bolts had worked loose and wallowed the holes out. Reitnouer handled it immediately. Wanted me to take it to a service center that was 1.5 hours away. I talked them into sending me the pieces of Angle and replace myself. He wanted me to send him pics of the old ones and of the Steel perches on the axle, to be sure they were not wallowed out. All of that was good. And I replaced them in less than an hour. He did tell me they needed to be retorqued every 100,000 miles.
I also have an all Aluminum Benson and an all Aluminum Fontaine.
The Fontaine is a PITA for wide loads, especially for some of the curved Steelplate that sets flat on the deck. Give you no place to attach chains, and if using straps you better hook the end with the hook before loaded because with the plate sitting flat on the deck you don’t have a way to hook under the deck. For the straps we cut the hooks off of one end and use wenches on both sides.
The only other issue I have had with it and the Benson and Transcrafts I own are these stupid little button lights or small rectangular lights. Wires seem to break off the back of some of these for no apparent reason.
I love my Reitnouer and if I were buying another one for myself I would look at an East and a Wilson for comparison but would lean heavily towards the Reitnouer.Last edited: Mar 13, 2022
Ok big boy, GYPSY65, CAXPT and 4 others Thank this. -
I bought a new bigger bubba in 19. Absolute junk pile. Even took it back to Reitnouer for them to do questionable work. Sold it, bought a Mac. Best choice I ever made.
mslashbar, cke, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this. -
