A word of caution. Unless they have changed their training tactics. You will NOT get the training you need from them.

14 days of class room instruction, combined with less than 7 days driving time, divided among the number of students....equals about 4 hours behind the wheel...total.

I personally witnessed one student fail a SINGLE backing test 3 times over a 2 week period at the State test site. I wasn't there for his 4th attempt at the test, I changed jobs...so I dunno the result.

The nearby State test site was closed (lease was lost) and students were required to test at Beeville State Community College or Montgomery shortly after I moved back to MS.

According to a close friend (who is a school instructor), the Beeville site is the toughest in the State.

I would seriously reconsider the school you are about to choose. In favor of a Community College training course. It takes a bit longer, the cost is cheaper. And you'll be better prepared for the real world of truck driving.

These are just my thoughts....your milage may vary.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll still go look around, since I know what to look for now. Or, maybe I can pass the permit test right away to get out of the classroom and work on the driving skills more.

Any ideas of good schools besides the Comm College route? I really do not have the money or time to do that. I've been sitting for way too long, and I have a mortgage.

I feel your pain. The Dot Com crash put me back in a truck. I had bills too, and I REALLY thought I had gotten out of trucking for good. Real smart move on my part.

The permit test requires one...maybe 2 nights (after work) of study. You don't need a classroom for that. Alabama is nice about providing you with "test" questions at the end of a chapter, that are directly related to permit test questions.

As far as another school goes. There was only one other nearby that I am familiar with. I think they have closed. You might take a look though. It's located north of I-20 off the Eastaboga exit (173) about a mile north on the left, in an old schoolhouse.

Check the local papers, and contact any that are listed. To see if they are privately owned and provide financing. You may get a few leads there.

Alabama Benz might be a route you can try. They have 2 locations...and a web site. I'm not familiar with their school. But anything beats CDI.

That is were you are wrong once you accept the bus ticket and attend orentaion they can dac you even though you were not actually hired yet.

So if you go to orentation and fail the driving test or pop hot on the pee test they can send you pasking and then dac you for that.

I was fortunate enough to get my foot in the door when there was still a shortage of drivers lol. Schneider school was still open and I did that for a week then left to do Werner school after a disagreement. Well for honesty it wasnt techically Werner school but I called Werner to get on with them and its the one they recommended. The loan worked similiar I got the school loan, and during my tenure with Werner they paid it. Just be ready to cover payments 1 and 2 though as there was a lag in their starting paying but they DID make 2 lump paymentsa fter I become a fully driver and then 6 months after i became one. I will miss not worrying about that loan.

    I will not miss WI...
