I know some pallets are chemically treated for bugs, etc.

I had once the whole load of instant noodles rejected because of infested pallets...spiders and their cobwebs. The shipper must have stored the pallets outside and there was a forest around. They found maybe 10 cobwebs out of 28. Otherwise, they were decent looking blue chep pallets.

Some places will not except anything food or beverage related unless it is on a blue or red Chep pallet.
We even had to ship back scrap lead wheel balancing weights to Bada in Bowling Green Ky to be recycled on special “fire proofed” wooden pallets.

I have used pharma grade pallets in a chemical plant. They have to be treated well. A clean dry storage place, no odors.

A retired friend of mine used to run flat bed loads of Chep pallets out of their pallet repair shop in San Antonio across from HEB distribution center and deliver all across Texas to different food places. They would reject some for various reasons upon delivery. Misshaped/chipped wood was the biggest one he said. He would return them and Chep would chip them down into mulch. Needless to say if you needed some decent heavy pallets around the shop for something he could get some that they were scrapping out.

Ok mr broker, I’ll take them back to my yard and put them in secure storage. Let me know when you figure it out and we will see about rescheduling the delivery. Maybe sometime in February? Secure Trailer storage fee is $500 a day. I’ll have to rent another trailer to run till then? So what another $150 a day?

I’ll keep track of the miles from here back to my yard 2 states away and back to the shipper or receive when your ready? so we will bill that at the same or more RPM you paid on the first leg right?

Just let me know? Momma will be happy to get me home.

Not ordered may be the cause, this seems to happen with a lack of communication. Last year we had a load like that, there was no scheduled production for the receiver but the pallet company shipped the load anyway without confirming the need, rejected so the driver had to bring it back to the shipper.

You do know that this opens up for a cargo claim if they are damaged, does the storage company or your company take responsibility for the care of the products?

    baha and Lonesome Thank this.

I had a load of pallets rejected once. They were sold by Walmart to a food processor. The consignee said they had spider webs on them and weren't "food grade".
