I have a 2003 western star with a 14lt. detroit in it I am putting a 3406e cat in it. I have a wiring harness from the ecm to the cab from a older 1994 western star does anyone know if that will work or not or what I need to do ? Thanks

Depends what 3406E you are putting in. Why are you doing the swap?

My detroit now has over a million miles on it and I never liked the egr engine to many sensor problems. The 3406e I have is a 5ek 475hp from a 1995 western star. The ecm to cab plug is the same plug but I did notice that the wires in the plug looked to be in differant places in the plug. So now I'm wondering if I would have to change the the whole wiring harness inside the cab.

If anyone has a 4964ex western star 2000 or newer with a 3406e cat in it I would like to get a vin# so I can get a wiring harness I think that may be the way I'll have to go on this swap. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You should just do a delete on your Detroit, you'd be happy with it after that. I'm a Cat guy and I HATED the 14.0L Detroits until we did a delete on ours, now I choose to drive it over the Cats.

    I have a 2000 with a 3406E problem is a 2000 will have a 70pin ECM like mine (2WS). I doubt the wiring harness inside the cab would be the same for the 40pins (5EK, 6TS, 1LW, 5DS) as they are for the 70pins (2WS, 6NZ, MBN, 1MM, 7CZ).

MAWK makes an adapter harness for 70pin to 40pin I now am wondering if I could go to a salavage yard and get a cab to engine harness and get the adapter haness if that would work even though my truck came with a detroit? I have not heard about doing a delete on a detroit what is that and how is it done?

Your ecm can be programmed to take all the EGR and VNT stuff off and it will run like an old pre emissions Detroit. Cost you much less then doing a transplant

That would be great it would proably get better fuel mileage too. Where can I get the delete done or would I need to send my ecm to someone? Thanks for the info that will be the way to go.

I'm not sure where you are located but the best one for you to get in contact with is Rebel127 on this forum. Yes it will get better mileage.
