Hi everyone. I'm considering replacing my C15 6NZ with a fresh one. My engine really looks like it went through a war. Runs great but looks ugly. I have 850,000 miles on it and am considering freshening it up with a platinum kit or just replacing it with a fresh rebuilt one with a fresh paint job. Can anyone recommend a reputable rebuilder for a swap?

Platinum kit at cat is my choice. 4 year warranty.

Hmmm....That Platinum kit is around $11,000..........Maybe more for a c-15
Do it yourself-Save about 6k in labor-
Engine swap could be close to 30k for a reman- $40k for a crate-Brand New -
Yes, I understand that. That's Definitely a pro. I'm hoping to put some paint on it. If I pull it out and send it out, then there's no question, but that's a lot more work. I guess I'm looking for the quickest wat to get both items in one move quickly

Thanks you guys, at that point I would probably consider a glider

Just remember you will not have the labor warranty if you do it yourself and that is priceless.
-
Priceless yes on cost, but if you/he does it right the first time and knows anything about rebuild, it is not worth the extra cost.wore out and stayinback Thank this.

Its all about VALUE- Which Savvy truck owners follow-
Series 60 Detroit motor- Send out Head for valve job- Liners-Rods-Pistons all Bearings under 2k $3500 total Plus my time.VALUE
I Look at Bottom Line value as opposed to Warrantees.........haggars Thanks this. -
It's all it what you feel is in your best interest. Me I love warrantees, but I know when to pay for having them and when not to. Not everyone does. A Detroit engine for me isn't worth having , but to some one else they love it. Different strokes for different folks. So if he does it himself and is say hmm 2,000 miles from home, something fails, then what pay the wrecker bill I suppose.
Broke Down 69 Thanks this. -
I would definitely go for the warranty, but with an inframe I would still have an ugly motor. My cat dealer wants around $35,000 for a platinum overhaul. Have gotten a much better price from out of state, but if something goes wrong I'm at the back of the line indefinitely.
