I used to work with a guy that was the back seater for an F-4. I'll never forget him saying that when they had a double flame out, the F-4 had the same glide ratio as a..........BRICK!

F-4C equipped with the Loran bombing system. Those small pods on the inboard pylons are BDU-33s... used 'em to load target practice bombs.

Easy... "423" is the tail number, that would be associated with the year the aircraft was ordered... something like 62-423 would be appropriate. Can't tell the year from this photo. That's how we knew which pig was which. Oh yeah... to the ground crews, they were "pigs."

OY was the base identifier used by USAF aircraft based at Udorn RTAF base in Thailand. Best guess is this bird was assigned to the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron, under the 6234th Tactical Fighter Wing (provisional). They provided air cover for the F-105s out of Takhli and Nakhon Phanom.

Most of the units went over originally as a TDY at the squadron level. The 6234th was a base headquarters squadron that grew into an overall umbrella expanding to a "wing" as the war geared up... if I recall correctly.

I am not being cynical or sarcastic here,(although it will seem that way) but has anyone ever had this thought..;one must be in excellent physical condition to enter the military, only to come home,(in many cases) without arms, legs, psychological disorders, blind, and,or,in a body bag? Just a thought people,I did my 3 years in the 82nd Airborne...
