Can a trucking company remotely shut down the drivers truck? Can some companies that use smart drive cameras remotely shut down your truck like Schneider? I’m not saying Schneider can remotely shut down any drivers trucks.

I am sure the capability is there. What the legalities and circumstances under which such a draconian action would be taken is another story.
I doubt that any OEM would equip the trucks that way, if it was done it would have to be done after the truck had been delivered, and might affect warrantee and other issues. Since the signal would have to come from the mobile phone network, or a satellite, a savvy individual could defeat it easily. Remember when guys used to put aluminum foil over their Qualcomm transmitter/receivers?
Thorny one. Can't wait for someone to try it.....Lonesome Thanks this. -
The capability is there although it's not really shutting down the vehicle. It's not allowing it to start after shutdown. Remotely shutting down any vehicle is a fatality lawsuit waiting to happen.
It's usually used by tote the note used car dealers, but I've head of it used by tote the note cmv dealers too.GYPSY65, Coriolanus and Bumper Thank this. -
Bumper and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

If I am not mistaken, Volvo advertises the capability to monitor the trucks in your fleet, identify a problem, and even make an appointment at the next available dealer, depending upon the severity of the issue. If they can do all of that, how hard would it be to disable it, like @ZVar mentioned. I sure don't expect them to stop it cold in the middle of the interstate. That is unless they got a call from the state police and they were in the middle of a chase.
Remember some bat crazy state representative out in, where else?, California even paid for research for some sort of switch on the back bumper that the CHP could bump and disable the vehicle. Didn't get very far. I think the TV news stations told them to buzz off, chases are great for ratings.... -
They don’t need to remotely shut them down, you’ll have an idle shutdown. I was in Wisconsin mid winter and almost froze to death because the apu broke, I couldn’t idle for more than 5 minutes. Then I had to drive 12 hours with no sleep after.
If you plan on stealing a truck, they have gps and you’ll get caught quickalds Thanks this. -
Bumper and Studebaker Hawk Thank this.

They sure can. All they need to do is shut off your fuel card.
OldeSkool, LoneRanger, BigBob410 and 2 others Thank this. -
Yep , they can do all kinds of things through satellite signals.
