There's no harm in keeping all endorsements, in fact not having all your endorsements will limit your options when it comes to applying for jobs. I still have all my endorsements, even though I have no plans to drive tankers ever again...you never know.

I think the less contact with DMV the better off you are. Also while it is simple to do why do it? There is a slight risk the DMV clerk could make a mistake and remove all of the endorsements. Keeping abreast of all the rules is hard enough as it is, don't add to it by doing something needless.

    Friday and JReding Thank this.

Makes no sense at all to do that, it's already paid for. When it comes time to renew he can just not renew that one. Out of his endorsements the passenger is the one that doesn't belong.

The only one you have to have removed is your hazmat. If you don't want your hazmat anymore, you must tell DHS in writing you don't want it. If you just let it expire, and don't tell them you don't want it, the state will revoke your CDL. Why? Who knows, but that is the rule per the letter I got when I renewed mine a few months ago.

That's new. Definitely never said that on my letter. Does your state not put your background check expiration on your license separate from your actual license expiration date?

    That's news.

By the way, the state doesn't revoke a licence unless there is a court order to do so, they suspend it if anything outside of that.

I don't understand the state doing something like that. Because all hazmat endorsements expire when the CDL does anyway. You then have to get it renewed when you get the CDL renewed.

even if your friend wishes not to haul some loads, having the endorsements are not a problem to keep them there. in fact, it can make him more employable. also, suppose he does have them removed, but later wants them back or a new job requires them, and what if the price of the tests go up more than what they are now, and what if road tests become required for the endorsements sometime into the future, ask him if he really wants to put up with all that future crap.

tell him to leave things alone. there are always problems that can arise at the DMV and who knows, maybe his entire CDL will be knocked down to an operator's license! one never knows the full mindset of the lowly DMV workers.

HAZMAT expires when HAZMAT expires. Your license expiration has nothing to do with it. Look at your license, HAZMAT has it's own date on the top right. I was originally told you still had to retest and it was just the background date, but my buddy just renewed his and didn't have to because DMV told him they went by the background date for the endorsement as well. He still has his endorsement on the new one, we'll see what happens when I try end of this year.

I learned two other times when they screwed up my endorsements that they CAN manipulate them when they want to so maybe it wasn't supposed to work that way but did for him.
