How do they check? is it just a visual or do they hook up to the trucks computer? Or do they actually hook up a emissions test unit to the exhaust? I have no intent of driving in California. these hot DPF filters are a real issue in the AG, Oil field, and foresty industries, as they may start fires from the heat. Innitally when they first started putting this stuff on Pickups the oil companies wouldn't allow them onto lease sites. So If i do buy a new truck that has this DPF stuff on it, Its comming off. I'm keeping the components so when I sell it I can make it "legal" again, but I can not afford to take the risk of starting fires when I am out in the field with my truck.

If you are only worried about the temperatures, you might want to look into the Banks system stuff. If they have a system for the truck you have, one of the advertisements talks about lower exhaust temps.

overpriced, overrated and nothing for anything bigger than a motorhome.

That's what the inhibit switch is for. Know how and when to use it. Do you think oil companies have nothing newer than 2006? No they've been buying emissions compliant trucks for some time.

Like was mentioned just use the regen kill switch when on location. Activate at highway speeds and you'll be fine.
If I remember right the oil field trucks I was driving were programmed to not regen under 20 mph. This will also eliminate that worry as well as keep you from paying major money to the gooberment.
Dunno what things are like in Canada but like was mentioned, down here the $10,000 fine isn't worth it. -
Cali checks for dyed diesel in three ways that I am aware of...
The first is a visual sample of the fuel itself....They have probes that detect the dye...filtered or not.
Second that I have seen is a smoke check at the coops while you pull into the scale....
The last is, the CHP has contractors who smoke test trucks.
In Cali, if you own two or more rigs, it is mandatory for the carrier to have his trucks smoke tested once a year....
As far as the DPF goes....The you will get warning on the the driver's display on the dash....Like Brick said...the auto-regen works only at higher speeds....
You can manually regen...just make sure that the area around the rig is clear.....And especially if you have a "Weed-burner"...which btw...they should be banned......
Nothing worse than a "Weed-burner" parked next to you at a truck stop and idling like there's no tomorrow...
Brickman Thanks this. -
I have heard of a few companies working on away to take care of this problem. Once I get to 50 posts I will message you with some info. Its to "hot" to post on here. haha.
