The schools charge extra if you want to drive a 10 or 13 and most students dont want to fork out the extra dough. So its on them. This happen to my son, so I know first hand. Since I own my own truck, he already knew how to drive the 13's.

Hey OP, just thought of something, call Gardner in Chino, tell them what you have and see what they say. They have trainers there. Also, Robertsons are always hiring and they also train. Robertsons are all over So. Cal.

Ryder will, can't speak for the rest. Show up with a valid, class correct license and a credit card with high/no limit; fill out bunch of papers and drive it out of the lot.

To rent a tractor from the leasing companies, they usually require that you put up a 5000.00 to 10,000.00 damage deposit, plus a hefty daily charge plus mileage charges. You should be looking for a company where you could work on the dock or yard then use their equipment to practice.

Don't be amazed. Anyone can get cdl with an automatic transmission, the only thing is that they would be restricted from legally driving a manual. I don't know why CA, Dmv doesn't require manual transmission exam vehicles to have synchronized trans. The truck from the driving school I attended was like driving a manual car.

You'd be better off posting a gig on Craigslist.
When my boss was scrambling to find a way to get me trained ASAP for my license, I posted a job to train me for a few hundred bucks. Had a few people respond, but I was already enrolled in school at that point.
Point being, your rental will be about $500 plus fuel, taxes, and all that jazz, with a security deposit to boot.
You may as well think more crafty and less Penske.
For the record though, my driving school had 13spd manuals and were very focused on double clutching for the test, and floating for our future jobs.
(For laughs: Our instructor claimed that every driver that waved to him, on the road, was a former student of his. I know know how full of hilarious crap he was.)Bob Dobalina, Giuseppe Ventolucci and Sam1000 Thank this. -
Do you mean a big rig tractor or a box truck?Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this.

Yes, I'm talking about the big rigs, 18 wheelers. But I want to drive the tractor without the trailer just to get the hang of the 10 or 13 speed tranny.
