So I was rolling up my 4" straps after getting unloaded today and found this. Would you replace this strap? Is it still legal? I already bought a new strap anyway because I don't take chances. Sadly this is maybe a foot from the hook so I can't cut it off. Any creative uses for damaged straps? Cut it up for corner protectors?

i certainly would replace it & like u asked, cut it up & use for corner protectors; i wouldn't leave anything to chance with securement
CAXPT Thanks this. -
if checked closely enough it would be cut and frayed, replace it, but keep in case you absolutly have to use it. and it can bu used for protection and to make a set of vee-boards

1/4" is all you are allowed. If you have a heavy duty sewing machine you can make a shorter strap.

Take it to a tarp/canvass repair shop they will/can cut off the bad part and resew it around the hook. Then I would keep it for a spare.
CAXPT, bullhaulerswife, RedMack and 3 others Thank this. -
If your driving an International they work well to cut the Squeak out of the hood.
Place a length of strap where the hood meets the cab bumpers. -
Hey Thanks! I happen to have family that does awnings and such. Will it keep it's WLL rating if it's repaired? If anything I can use it to hold down my chain box or rolled tarps on the bed if it's repaired.CAXPT Thanks this.

The repair shop will be able to tell you if their machine sticth PI enough to keep the rating, I'm sure that most if not all can. And your right, I always seem to need at least one strap that is "non-stress" for holding incidentals.

If the strap is repaired, make sure the limit tags are still on it. In fact make sure the tags are on all your straps. The DOT loves to check for them.

Might be fine if it's under a tarp, but I'd get a spare just encase.
Maybe this ill be more help than us.
