We haul out of a pipe place, where if you don't have them, you don't get loaded.

"Do you have stakes(I heard it has steak.)?"
"No, but I can get you some from wal-mart."
"What...?" -

I'm still running under 1980s business practices, if they want pipe stakes, they need to supply them.
-
Agreed, miss the days where dunnage was supplied.

Hauled for a steel company for 4 years and had free access to scraps or cut offs as they called them, paid scrap price for metal and complete shop access.
Made over and over little things like stake pocket bars, sold them online and made some good money. Best customer was companies loading up the company trucks, coil racks was another hot item since my coil racks were heavy duty. -
Everything on my truck is company issued, I have no idea what they are.

Most times you load pipe the loader wants bars placed in the stake pockets to keep the pipe from rolling, you can use about anything but standard is channel cut 2 or 4 feet ling with a piece of flat bar welded on it so it keeps the bar from sliding down into the pocket.
Safety feel good measure mostly
