Cool story bro. 4 yards of sand to soak up some oil drips? Lol. It always absorbed nicely into the wood for me of course I let it sit and soak in. Didn't take off to load it right after "pouring buckets of it" on there.

If you have access to a oxy acetylene rig heat the old screws after cutting the tops flush with crossmember. Get them melting and use a punch and hammer to knock them out down thru the holes. Get some #14 self tap fine thread metal to wood screws. You will not need drill bits.
cke, ElmerFudpucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
The trailer manufacturers all used self tappers. The don’t pre drill. Takes too much time. They are a fine thread heavy shank. Regular coarse thread screws for metal will not go thru the thicker steel without a predrilled pilot hole. The screws i’m talking about can self tap thru structural I-beam and c-channel steel up to 1/4” thick easy peezy. 35 years ago when apitong came into play Fruehauf along with Georgia-Pacific was working on some kind of top secret synthetic hard wood that they were trying to develop as crack free, nail hole self healing, and fire proof. They were gonna patent it and make it their exclusive. The bankruptcy and sale to Wabash ended it. Maybe this new stuff is that after all these years.
