A5E8BDB0-B6F4-4D90-8487-F00BA772F27E.jpeg I’m tearing into the brake system on this trailer and I’ve made up my mind, just about everything needs replaced. As of today, I’ve taken all the brake shoes off and pulled the slack adjusters off. The S cam bushings are in bad shape, as are the S cam shafts. I’ve already got some slack adjusters that are 10 spline but I’m wondering if new S cam shafts that are 10 spline can still be bought?

There still out there and common
Almost all my stuff is still 10 spline
Hopefully your brake spiders aren’t worn bad where the bushing goes in. If they are either get new ones or have them fixed. It gripes me when someone ignores that and then you can’t adjust the brakes because the bottom shoe hits way too soon.

Looks like different lengths and diameters. Does this trailer have two different axles under it?

Yes they are but only by an 1/8”-3/16”. My camera skills definitely makes that one look significantly longer.

Best I can tell, they are the same axles. My choice of camera angle was poor. The front axle spindle has a hole in the end of it with 2 incased wires that ran out to the end of the threads. I’m not sure if it was for some early style ABS or what.

I pop the small seals out of each side of the bushing and used a large socket to drive the bushings out. For as much wear that is on the shaft, I expected the teflon bushings to be nearly gone but they weren’t.
