    Or more wages.

My load this morning is a repower. It loaded on the 18th, but can't deliver until 0800 on the 24th. The driver who picked it up got to run 750 miles, I get 450 with an easy drop and hook on both ends, we all keep moving.

My pay structure is such that long length of haul doesn't increase my earning. For the last two years my average length of haul was 70 miles. I would drive an average of 350 miles a day, 11 hours start to finish and it was the same pay as driving 650 miles.

Thats good. Its nice when it works out well. Its normally a babysitter game and holding 2 parking spaces while you get that “hot hot load taking off you.”

You just touched on a pet peeve of mine. I NEVER held a parking spot. I also forced the other driver to properly park OR they did NOT get the trailer I had. I remember a young guy once that got all upset that I would not pull off a load so all he had to do was back under after leaving his trailer parked at a fricking fuel island. I went off on that lazy punk!

Ok school me. What is the deal with holding two parking spots, how does that work? What is wrong with you not dropping your trailer and just hooking to his on the fuel island and vice versa? Other than being a bad person and blocking the fuel lane.? I dont understand how the ballet plays out. Your explaniation of a repower was good and i understand that now.

There are several things wrong. If I am on my 10 I really rather not be doing it at all. A fuel island is NOT the place to drop a trailer. Let's just assume it's OK. I want my trailer parked the same way the trailer I came in with was. At my leisure, I am inspecting the tires and all the legals. Was the load weighed? Is there crap dropping out of the trailer? Are there air leaks? That load had better be ready to hit the street at the point of drop-off. If it is NOT I am NOT giving up my load. I had a reputation with my carriers of being somebody that did not do repowers well. I admit I was an AH on this subject and today years after I retired I still refuse to apologize for being one!

You might be out of hours- the reason for the repower. So when he drops the trailer outside of a safe parking space, you end up in a truck stop with no parking and can't legally move. Of course, you could pull the trailer you have out of your space and have the other guy ready to drop their trailer in the space you vacated. Then you drop yours on the fuel island or elsewhere.
What used to piss me off was when a guy would drop his trailer then park his bobtail in another space to hold a place for his buddy. Sometimes you would see several of these at the same stop and usually all from the same company.

Ok I see more now how the HOS play into it. So before you accept a load from another, you have an opportunity to inspect the trailer and load before it is unhooked from his power to make certain it is up to snuff, and he yours.

Let's also get real here. When a Truck Stop gets full at night and drivers see this happening the chances something gets done to either the truck or trailer increases. I remember sitting beside our daytime roadside assist man in his office when a driver told him somebody had poked a hole in an airbag on the back of the trailer. The night has a way of self-correcting this kind of behavior! I'm not an advocate of doing damage to another person's equipment! Just saying it does happen!

Exactly and a fuel island is really not a good place to do this!
