When I did liquid tanker waste out in the northwest I started in the covid era at 18.50/hr. We got bumped up to 29.50 by the time I left in like early 2024 I think. Of course it wasn't your typical tanker gig. We had injury rates in line with food service. Clean harbors was our big competitor. They made more money but weren't union.
Wasn't a bad gig but as a smaller guy around 5'10 and 200lbs I knew by 40 I would be in a wheel chair. Job put slabs of muscle on me though, I could rep 400lb deadlifts and bench 250lbs by the time I left.
Lots of hazmat jobs here though tanker or otherwise paying 25/hr. I'm out of work at the moment, laid off from LTL but I'm thinking of hanging up the keys for good. 25-30/hr to be driven into the ground in plastic nanny trucks with cameras and tattle-tell AI just ain't worth it.
I'll never be able to buy a house or be anything other than slightly besting treading water at these gigs. I'd rather get some easy warm body job for 22-25/hr and just coast and have some freetime for once.
