Yes, there would be a army willing to go in there and work on that machine.
It's a little mind bending for me because those are the sort of machines Ive worked in going down the road which we thought were pretty good. And now we are talking about them as if they are some sort of museum piece to bring back to life. However I don't know if anyone who does that is aware of for example the gauges and information not present in modern trucks and the different RPM situation along with Mr Pyrometer etc. Driving those old ones are really driving. You become part of it to do it right.

That's one of the main things I like about those older machines. It would take a lot of work, but that's why I went to school to diesel mechanics! I love the old trucks. If done right, that truck will be beyond words. Let's hope for the best!

I spose that probably is spring ride.x1Heavy Thanks this.

That is where your airride seat that goes up and down and also back and forth is really important with a little bit of reclining too. Some of the better seats would add air under certain spots so you can rest on it on bad roads. There are times it requires a little alcohol in cans to ease the ride and the associated pain. (This was before the 1991 CDL laws, I consider myself sober since then.)SheepDog Thanks this.

I need to add a quick release valve on my suspension see if it helps my w9 ride better, it helped my dad's 84 359, that or they simply didn't ride as bad as he remembers when new.x1Heavy Thanks this.

Just to clarify, that’s not my video. I just figured I’d share it.x1Heavy Thanks this.

My 84' International 9670 has air ride, in the back.... I swear to you, it rides better than any truck I have rode in, including my 2012 Coronado that had all air ride. I am sure my Legacy seat helps a bit and maybe the 34 year old cab springs, $1500 to replace those and they will come with shocks added on. I will replace my front axle, maybe, with air ride some day.

Nope, at 5:07, as he walks around the back, you can clearly see it has air leaf. Spring ride was for company daycabs, O/O's bought Pete's specifically for it's air ride, and this truck is dripping with O/O features. My '72 in the avatar had air leaf. My buddies '76 Pete had air ride, but his '73 W900 had "torture bar" suspension.KB3MMX, peterbilt_2005 and SheepDog Thank this.

I could never let a yungn' in a truck like that.
Not to be funny or offensive to anyone, but the trucks nowadays really Hold Your Hand. They make you into someone that,s probably not capable of handling a truck like that.
It's better they sit and look at it from afar, and wonder where the computer is hidden.KB3MMX, peterbilt_2005 and SheepDog Thank this. -
I will agree modern trucks are more refined, but this isn't THAT much different, it's not a chain drive Sterling. And I disagree, I'd put a youngun' in this. I'd say, "you can drive this, you can drive anything". I guarantee, you wouldn't get that kid out of there!homeskillet and SheepDog Thank this.
