Not plugging Western Express by any means. It is a bad place.

They say pet friendly but don't care. No pet deposit required. No verification or limits. They are more concerned about human passengers. Most likely because a human passenger is more liability to them vs a pet.

Pay attention to the carriers that pay your class a visit -- while you are in CDL school.

Basically, they are there for 2 reasons:

• they hire (& train) rookie drivers
• they are looking for more help

While they are there....ask questions. Collect business cards from them. Try to establish a rapport with them. Make sure they know who you are, & in what town you are living.

Given the current CDL job market -- one of them may be where you land your first driving job.

Application process takes 30 minutes on your end, once you have your employer's contact info & dates of employment for last 3 years on hand.

Is your drug, driving, criminal, work history perfectly clean or do you have 3 DUIs and still on probation for 9 murders (ok it's an exaggeration) like some newbies expecting to get a job 3 seconds after school ends?

You can't bring a pet during the 1-2 months of training at the company that first hires you. You will be sharing a truck with your trainer. SOME companies that allow pets don't allow them until you are solo for 60 or 90 days AND accident/incident/ticket free. Sneaking an unauthorized pet is grounds for immediate termination, sometimes on the spot, even if you are 7 states away from home. NEVER consider doing it.

 

Averitt doesn't allow pets but they are an awesome company, IMO.
