No No No..... it was Garth Brooks, not Brad Paisley! Get your facts straight!
joseph1135 Thanks this. -
I remember the sign.... and the lousy food that many of them served in the years leading up to TA buying them out in 1997. That is one area of trucking that has definitely worsened over the years is places a driver can get a well cooked meal. Most truck stops today are filled with fast food garbage.
Anyone who has ever gone in to a Union 76 truck stop as a driver has been trucking for a long time. For the newer drivers..... you didn't miss much.

I remember the one in Wheeling, WV when my dad took me on a trip with him. Most times I used to go to Brooklyn with him but this time we went to West Virginia and we stopped at the 76 there. Never wanted to go back to Brooklyn so much.

I still remember the TV ad campaign featuring Richard X. Slattery ("Murph") talking about the Union 76 Auto/truck stops. In one ad, he's taking a woman there (wife? Mom?), and her rather indignant reply upon arriving "A TRUCK STOP??). This was in the mid 70s.

When I was training, TA was in the process of converting all the 76 truck stops to TA stops.
I remember the orange ball was still above the TA in Ontario, CA. Bloomsbury, NJ just changed over and was having some growing pains.
Got to tip your hat to former Rip Off's while your at it.
ever notice that an old billboard for them survives east of Big Spring, TX?48Packard Thanks this. -
And for some odd reason Most of the converted Rip Offs---still seem to stay in a lil better shape w/better food--the one on 20 east of Dallas being the Noteable exception to that statement---LOL

Rip off's still has his original location for this day open for business in Lubbock Texas

I park there often but rarely go inside except to make a deposit.

Boise Stage stop, I-84 exit 71 Boise ,Idaho
There is a sign near the counter,
All are welcome, But Truck drivers are served first.
First saw this sign 20 years on a road trip to Boise.
And true enough the sign still hangs, and yes the wait staff does enforce it.
