residential propane delivery?

I knew a guy that delivered fuel oil to homes, and I can't imagine propane being any different. He said, you'd sit for a long time until the temp got really cold, then everybody calls at once with 1/8 of a tank. He said there were many times he was looking for the fuel oil pipes with a flashlight.
