No matter what rules "they" make. The rules won't be broad enough to be good for everyone.
Read all the exemptions for the current HOS.
I think the HOS rules need to be made for specific segments. OTR, regional. Tank, livestock. Reefer, general freight.

Hahahaha. Never will one size fit all.
Oh schucks the drugs are wearing off.
    Carry on.

Until you hit 70 hours. Then you'd have to sit till the recap started catching up. There was no 34 hour restart.

Exchange trucking company for shipper/reciever and you might be on to something. If the trucking companies had that much pull their would of never been a 14 hour rule.

Now you've gone and found another flaw in the old system! Truth is it sucked.

What sucked the most was the split sleeper berth combined with only requiring 8. And the culture of cheating, heck if you wouldn't cheat you'd get fired as a company driver and never get a load as an owner operator. Spend 3 hours on the dock counting freight as you are being unloaded or 3 hours pulling up in line every few minutes...that's sleeper berth time!! Run across town and face the same thing getting the next loaf on. Just got your required sleeper berth time in and didn't sleep a single minute. Now run 1000 miles in 24 hours. ya the 'good ole days'. I dont miss them.

And you don't see an issue with that?

I've also run out of hours long before I was tired and you only get a couple hours of sleep tossing and turning. The HOS applied to the driver don't help a lot of us, now if you'd just make it illegal for companied to force drivers to drive tired you'd be getting somewhere. You have heard of people who will literally "commute" 8 hours to their driving job and then drive a full day haven't you?

Of course. There is no way to ensure an employee gets proper rest on their of duty time. You can only ensure they get enough time, what they do with that time is up to them.
