the petro in atlanta is the only place worth stopping other then that i park outside the city and plan my entry
Depends on where you go. I'd rather lick a crack heads armpit than walk into one of the showers without shower shoes. Your feet might fall off due to mold, and mildew, or get pregnant. The newer the TS, the better the shower area. The older, well, you get the point. Every time I walk into a grocery store or Walmart, I buy these disinfectant wipes that I use for toilets, or whatever. They are like 1.29 a pack, and well worth it. I always have 5+ packs. My goal when getting onto one of the showers is to not touch anything I don't have to. I don't trust the guy getting paid 8.00 an hour to clean them, and don't trust the person before me to not do disgusting things. At the same time, how much more dirty can the showers be than me after not taking a shower for a couple of days?
I was born and raised in Atlanta. With the amount of trucks circling 285 everyday, I'm surprised there aren't more truck stops. Especially on the southside where land is cheaper. My company has forbidden drivers from going to the pilot off exit 52 or 53. Fuel was getting stolen while drivers slept, and freight stolen while parked. The Pilot on the Cobb Co border is a little better than the one on the east side of town.
I will stop and shower daily. I learned after $5000 worth of dental work that it's not worth neglecting daily hygiene some 18 years ago. I learned long ago also, that the anti-bacterial push is a medical professions dream as it actually promotes illnesses. Kid did a demo at the local county fair and compared anti-bacterial and regular soap. The AB soap got you no cleaner than regular soap and actually killed/helped less than just regular washing with plain soap and water. The key is.... Use soap and water. And with toilets spraying stuff over 6 feet away in the restrooms. Anything in there is already coated with nasties. using the AB stuff is not helping your body build your immunities to those nasties.
I prefer TA or Petro showers. Most of them are excellent with two towels, cloth bathmat and very clean and nice. Also, showers stay on the card for ten days. Seems like Pilot drops the shower credits on the card in three days and most Pilot showers are a poor second compared to the above.
Would love to find any shower right now, TA, Petro, Loves, Pilot. Been sitting on a hilltop in Pennsylvania for the past three days next to a power plant. No shower, toilets or anything else.
Bring noseplugs if you're sensitive to smell, especially first thing in the morning. I haven't been in a TS restroom yet that has the ventilation to combat the overpowering stench. Earplugs for the horrific sounds you will often hear from the stall next to you.
