I can't speak for @ZVar but one of the reasons I make these comments are green drivers all across the US driving for megas and mid-size to small fleets are having problems. There is no nice way to put this, but they listen to bad advice. That driver I mentioned earlier has about 8 months' experience.

Watch this video! There is no telling how many other drivers he has told you don't have to do this? I know a little bit about this case. While in the purest technical sense the driver was right he spent 3+ hours there. I understand no defects were found. This means he would have been on his way at the most within 30 to 45 minutes. So to prove a point he lost close to 3 hours of his valuable time.

My advice for ALL drivers! Do this as well as most everything else the way your frickin company wants you to do it. If you get into an emergency, shut down! Then call and get guidance from the company! If later a cop tells you to move stay nice and explain the issue, you might be surprised just how much latitude that cop may give you!

    ZVar Thanks this.

And that's exactly why I push so hard when one is quoting regulations and is wrong. It's also why I'm willing to separate "best practice" with what is legal.
When a literal comma makes a difference in how courts uphold the law new drivers need to know the law for two reasons. One is simple, so they don't break it accidentally. Two is so they can gauge the risk of getting a violation (or citation) and if it's worth it.

And there are not only a lot of regulations, but a lot of drivers that think they know the regulations but don't because they were told something that made sense 20 years ago and can't believe that what they were told is wrong or that regulations change. That's also why I rarely comment on legal matters unless it's obvious personal opinion or I have the regulation to back it up.
