Yeah d go watch some yourube vids to just to get a better mental pic.. I did the same as you just wash and peel the bugs off...When i polished it and added wax n such i actually had to reach out n touch it..Then i got mad cause now i got finger prints on it..lol.... As an fyi..DONT do it to mirrors or plastic lens of the headlights..Only lite lite pressure with the 0000 steel wool to.. Think of it as the same when you clay bar your cars paint..
Has anyone had any luck with any anti-stick coatings (i.e. RainX)???? Or - are there aftermarket windshields available with anti-stick coatings on them?
I spray degreaser on windshield. Wait couple minutes and wipers will clear the viewing area. We get herds of bugs on windshield…MayFlies are the worst…big fat juicy bugs.!! Put Rainx anywhere you want a barrier between bugs and truck. I use Rainx on my hot rod glass and fenders during road trips.
Rain x works but after awhile it seems to make a track in the window...It has to be put on warm to above 60f and doesnt seem to repond well with the anti freeze solutions used on the highways djring the winter I just do the window clean like in the vid and use a good wax.. I reciently tried ceramic wax on a clean windshield...So far i very pleased..
Brother is now retired Air Force FF, current DOD employee as Fire Chief. They wax the fire trucks windshields often... He told me about this waxing forever ago. just need to be careful around the rubber seal...
I wet the windows with the slop in the bucket and from the ground spray 409 scrub a little then squeegee I hit the bugs between Fargo and Steele every few evenings works good for me
I use rainex cause it makes a tremendous difference, especially if the glass and mirrors were never treated. You literally wont need your wipers for a few weeks. I’ll then do a quick retreat every 6 months or so. I use the squeegee at the pumps because I’m not a complete lunatic. Of course skip it if the water has an oil slick on it. I used to keep a bottle of dawn to add a squirt in the bucket if it looks like its plain water. I like using rainex washer fluid from walmart and that stuff works good too.
Draw back abojt rain x is that it leaves a track in the windshield and has to be above 60f to cure..It also doesnt react well with the crap they put on some roads during the winter, smears like crazy... Its why i do the clean,0000 ga steel whool and a good coat of wax..
There’s an easy remedy for that, only put it on if its a nice day lol. I used to use way to much and it was hard to buff off all the excess. Now I just use maybe 6 pumps on the whole windshield, 1-2 on the sides and whatever on the mirrors. What smears like crazy? After a few days and a few fuel pump squeegee cleanings later there’s no residue left. I wont be reapplying until spring. Admittedly, I’ve never used wax but I’ve had no issues with rainex, after a couple of days after applying it that is.
