I know it would be better to have an antenna mounted on the side rather than the rear, but wouldn't this still be better than what's currently there, and still look much better? Any opinions?

I wish there were some way to know the performance ( range, SWR ) of this setup before spending the $100.00 and putting forth the effort to hook it up. I believe the new 2017 Freightliners are putting the mount in the back of the cab, and yes it probably isnt as good as the side of cab setup, its got to be better than the factory stock antenna. Did you know Freightliners reasoning for the integrated antenna system was for improved aeordynamics, really, didnt know a wilson 2000 antenna on top of the mirror resulted in so much wind drag, obviously Volvo isnt too concerned about it.JReding Thanks this.

Yeah, @mmdavidson0128 told me about Freightliner's attempt to shave as much off as possible. Why they didn't just do rear cab mounts to begin with, I don't know. It's not like there's nothing else hanging off the back of the cab...

I just wonder about SWR readings because of reflect off of the cab and also the trailer blocking the signals. Thats why it has been recomended not to use coil antennas with short shaft , on the side mount, because the coil will be too close to the cab and will affect SWR and performance.

Why they just dont go back to mirror mount like the columbia model had and forget about it. Ive had three Volvos before I got into this Cascadia, and all three the stock antenna setup worked great, good SWR and good range, and the fuel mileage was alot better. I know there are several variables that influence MPG but I doubt Volvos mirror mounted antennas affect it much. If I still had a Volvo I would be a couple hundred dollars richer and could buy a new radio, LOL.JReding Thanks this.

I'm wondering if a couple factors could make a difference:
@mmdavidson0128's truck is a regular sleeper with a fiberglass fairing added in top, not a condo cab (do they still call them this?), and when he's hooked to his set, there's probably about 6' between his cab and the lead trailer. Enough of a difference to reduce interference somewhat? -
In the eBay listing from the link supplied on page one of this thread, the seller states that the rf power could fail the self test because of the low deadkey setting and this is normal.

That was one of my initial thoughts, why do they set a low carrier, did they do a swing mod?
