    Very short and easy question.

Are you allowed to bobtail with your gooseneck still attached and sitting on the frame with the neck lift?

    Is it legal?

It really has no where to go as it's still hooked to the 5thwheel. It's heavy that it wouldn't (shouldn't) bounce of the frame.

    So legal or no?

I would think you would have to chain it down and also would have to have lights. But I certainly don’t know the answer. Why would you need too?

If you had full tail/signal/brake lights and secured it to stop sideways movement or bounce on the fifth pivot then you should be good, but why?

and yes the neck will bounce if not secured. I have had one move when disconnected and moving over uneven ground. I was able to catch it before damaging a tire but just barely.

Maybe. It seems weird but you see guys going with those lift & tow gear setups in their frame pinned into the hitch. They are chained and have lights but I’d say not much different. 25CDFA11-3F96-4249-BAB5-5E0ADFEA2E1E.jpeg

difference is the gooseneck will block your lights on the back of the truck — so if you don’t have any on the gooseneck I’d be wary

I’ve seen folks do it, such to bobtail to a hotel from a truck stop, go into a small fuel stop, restaurant etc. never really seen 1 riding down the interstate though.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Yes the time I had it move I was running around to the back to stretch out a bunch of chains to drag a dead unit onto the trailer on bad ground.

D.Tibbitt, cke and kylefitzy Thank this.
