Does anyone have any info on CDL schools in RI? Im close to Nationwide Tractor Trailer school in Smithfield RI but haven't heard or read any reviews of the school. I know there is also NETTS and Parkers in Avon, MA.

    Thanks in advance

No sir I live in Litchfield ct.....ive had a cdl a for 14 yrs.....I took the course in 95 or so laid off unemployment paid...I got called back......now im out of work again!!! So to get in anywhere worth going to work driving I have to take a CDL A REFRESHER course......$4200 thank you!!!....so I shopped that's where I found the affordable Colchester...they look like a great place to learn flat bedding which is what I want to do.....but im going to go to I think allstate in Seymour ct......waaaay closer to home for me......for you no way!!....but I cn tell you this much.....I went to a recruiter thing at NETTS in somers a coupke weeks ago.....on a Saturday AM.....drove an hour to get there....10 minutes early....not only was there not a seat.....but I felt like I was in a room of dudes up for parol!!!!......not to sound uppity cause im not but there were some wild lookin dudes there....after the pitch they went to class.....I RAN HOME the pitch was a job that sounded aweful!!!! way too much hand trucking every box ON n OFF....12-18 stops a day!!!....so hope that helps!! where do you plan to work anyway??

Im just starting to look and study the Truckers Report. Lots of great info. Ive got an interest in Flatbed as well. I can use my Post 911 GI Bill to pay for training. Looking at a Veteran friendly company. Eventually would love to have my own truck and call the shots. Again there is a lot to learn so I need to crawl first. Have you done OTR before 150minpinpower?

no sir no OTR im 50 yrs young....I have only driven tractor trailers during school!!! I had a trade for 26 yrs....it invlolved me on the road all day I drove through ri a lot all of mass ct and eastern ny up n down the Hudson river valley into the boros.....I was a service technician for Stanley....fixing doors at hospitals Walmart and that stuff electric locks at banks access control you name it....good money.....but the joy was sucked out over the years.....I love being on the road.....drove cars x country several times and even bk n frth from Alaska in cars!!!! so I know the otr feeling.....solitude isn't for everyone....but it fits me....I have a dog and a few women I hang out with when we need that but all n all I enjoy freedom....so I am not really committed to flatbed but it sounds cool the stuff they haul.....HUGE tractors and equipment form mars!!!.....but I could end up in a van so who knows.
from your last post it sounds like your pretty free.....got some GI funding behind you.....Thank YOu for your Service, I truly understand Freedom isn't free
and I admire gents and ladies who go over and beyond being a typical American!!.....If you have time.....the funds....why not get the license....the posts I have read and you tube ive seen a lot of people get these jobs and leave in a month!!!! they quit......I guess theres a lot to absorb....your military so I don't need to tell you.....go in eyes wide open.....prepare for the worst....like truck blows up in Washington state in feb. -40 they blame you and your fired.....make sure you can get home!!!......well....you know this stuff......basically go in and expect the worst...well be ready for it......any promises made to you I hear are usually broken....but this is just what im reading here....there has to be a few good companys.....these guys I read from may be using drugs or something worst.....sooo.....I say you get the license.....start now on your TWIC and Hazmat [if you can do that before the you actually get a CDL] it takes 6-8 weeks for it to clear and its about 200 outta your pocket but makes you a more Usable driver.....and once your hired somewhere you wont get much time I figure to add credentials....so try to get that rolling as soon as you can.....even if its the day you pass the cdl test.....

Parker is a good school, and will cost you less than half of what the rapists at NETTTS will bleed you for. Don't get is wrong, NETTTS is good but they can't justify that amount of money I just checked thier website and they no longer give you the option to see what it will cost to go, which to me means the rates went up. Went I originally looking into going there (2005 I beleive) they wouldn't tell me anything and would only come to my house to talk to me, that's when they only had the one location and it would have been around $12k I beleive. Parker is around $5k for 6 weeks. I also googled up this place http://www.amaralcompanies.com/cdl.htm I don't know anything about them, but the price is nice. Either way all they have to do is get you to pass your road test, you'll get your tweaking at your jobs orientation.

You need to go to a school in your own state. They don't cross state lines for you to take the test. Also, pre-trip and driving tests are different state by state.
