I called a shipper directly today for a load of lumber up here in Canada. It was a full load on my tandem trailer so about 50-52,000 pounds.
The load was almost 1000 miles and he said it paid.......$700 Canadian dollars ($575 USD)
Shocked by the ridiculous...I stumbled over my words and I replied..."Thanks anyways but thats way too low for me". And this wasnt even a broker....it was the direct shipper.
Seriously, who is hauling for these rates? That's an insult to even suggest that rate. It was so far from what I NEED to run the load....I didnt even counter offer it.

If nobody picks it up l guess it'll sit there till it pays 3 dollars per mile,or maybe a L/O from CRE will happy to get it

That's possible...I just checked the date and its been listed on the shippers list for almost 3 weeks. Surprising they dont bump it up.
I delivered a lumber load yesterday which still didn't pay as much as I'd like....but was much better than that one. The guy I delivered to said "I was surprised to see you. I have a hard time getting my loads when they're ordered from head office. The shipper told me it's because they just can't find any trucks."
I felt like saying....they'd have plenty of trucks if they'd pay the right rates. But I chose to keep my mouth shut. He wasn't the guy in charge of ordering and has no say in what they'll pay.

Myself, jumped on a load 97 miles $850.00; Those cheap rates are used by experienced Brokers to teach a new hire (inexperienced) broker how to handle the stress of rejection. Then the what if, when somebody (very few) would actually accept the load. (take a look at the percentage increase in the Brokers commission rate).

He should of said,"we cant find any trucks to haul for the rates we pay" ..Same crap as ATA saying,"we have a driver shortage",,no what you have is a shortage of drivers willing to drive for peanuts..

I was hoping they'd have put they actual shipping charge on my load yesterday...just so I'd have an idea of how much the broker made. Not so I could complain...just to educate myself for the next time they have a load.
But it wasn't on the BOL so I have no clue.
