Put in 40mi, this afternoon. Whew! Tough winds. I didn’t even average 7mph, on the outbound, which was 2-1/2hrs. I’ve never been so happy to see a grain elevator on the horizon. However, I peaked at 24mph, on the way back in. Love a tailwind!

This ride was a planned goal of mine. In the past, I’d ride from my previous home to the next town east, 37mi away. That made it sort of a committed deal, but, there were bailout towns ~5mi north and south of the route. Today, was the next town to the south of my current home. There’s absolutely nothing out there, so it IS a commitment. They have a Subway and a couple gas stations, for refueling. I’m doubtful my health is going to allow me to ever get back to my previous regimen. But, if I can make this a regular, somewhat effortless, weekend deal, I’ll be happy.

    Crops are coming out. :(

I’d previously mentioned wanting to try to ride to KC, via the Katy Trail. Yesterday, I joined a FB group dedicated to the topic. I’m not sure I can tolerate the Kens and Karens, though. I tried the Meet-Up app, for kayaking in FL, and it was the same experience with that. I went to the IMSA races, at Indy, last weekend. There was a Karen complaining about people blocking her view down the front straight. There’s a peace and tranquility to being solitary in my house, on my bicycle, and in my truck.

That time if year, may or may not be mild. Looks like winter may be early in midwest, pumkin spice donuts were on the shelf a little early this year
I m hoping to do Ohio trails around Dayton area in November

Rode the Wyoming Heritage Trail from Shoshoni to Riverton and back. 44 miles round trip. Had to take quite a few breaks on the return.

Honestly, this trail kinda sucks. ATV's are allowed, lots of loose, deep gravel, and 2 spots where it seems flooding has spread a wide swath of deep sand over the trail. This trail is rough. Washboarded in lots of places. Boards missing in the bridges. Sand burr's are terrible.

My legs were junk about halfway back on the return trip. Still very scenic in spots, but pretty much standard Wyoming. Which ain't bad.

Trail is right next next to the Shoshoni rest area. Sand burrs, #####! Hoping the sealer in my tires works. Pulled probably 20 out when i got to the truck that leaked.

Burrs are horrible. Tubeless is a requirement, for sure. I’ve been debating doing it to my Space Horse. It’d eliminate the concern, with what I’m currently doing.

The winds have been horrendous, the last couple weekends, so I haven’t ridden. However, I made some diet changes and have been losing 1lb per day, since 10/2.

BTW, Don't let my negativity dissuade you. I really enjoyed it, and the sand burrs were probably my fault for getting off trail.

As usual, i enjoyed the first half much more than the second. That's just weak legs, and below freezing temps to start.

I jacked up a knee two weeks ago on a short hike, and have done nothing since. Felt good to get out.

Congrats on the weight loss. Diet changes are harder to stick with than most any excercise. This thread kinda gives me a place to check in with my progress.

More to keep myself on track than anything else.

    Good luck

I haven’t had a chance to get out lately between general life stuff going on and the wind. The wind is bearable if I have time to drive to Lincoln and hit a rail trail that’s somewhat protected, or drive over towards Beatrice and ride that one, but it’s pretty flat and open around here and that sucks when I don’t have the time to drive anywhere.

I did get some healthier food to take in the truck when I leave tomorrow, I’ve been getting pretty lazy in that department too.

    Thank you.

I started listening to a variety of podcasts with many featuring people who happen to be in good shape. When the subject of diet comes up, they always state they eat for nutrition, only. Well, there are a lot of things I consume because I love them, not necessarily for their nutritional value. That has stopped, for the most part. On my current contract, I have an Arby’s at both my D/H points. That has stopped, too. I bought a microwave, this weekend, so that’ll be handy. My goal is 190lbs, which is currently 35lbs away.

This thread is an additional motivator. If we can keep each other plugging away, hopefully, we’ll all continue improving our health.

Definitely. I've always been super active, (hyperactive according to the wife), but I was roughly 240-245lbs between 2007-2010.

I'm at my lowest weight, and in my best health ever, now at 180ish.

Not saying I got the legs to pedal 40 miles nonstop, but I've got goals, and they're changing constantly.
