Sounds good but bears don't bother you when you camp like that?

Thank you for your expert advice. I rediscovered cycling about a year ago but so far it's been mostly used for fitness. I got hooked though and now I feel I want to go beyond that. This thread is very inspirational. A Brooks saddle is too frequently mentioned on social platforms and literature on highly positive notes to ignore it, so I must find room in my budget to buy me one too.lol

I have Selle Anatomica saddles on all my bikes. They’re comfortable to me and don’t require a break in like a Brooks.

As far as bears, as long as you cook and store your food away from your camp and have no food smells at all where you sleep they will leave you alone. When I lived in Western Montana I was more worried about seeing one on the trail than I was about sleeping outside. Honestly I’m more concerned about shady people finding my camp than I am wildlife.

Dont play Shania Twain music, bears hate that crap and resort to violence. And no rap, racoons will bite you. Best chances are playing Grateful Dead, something with Pigpen in it :)

I started using a Brooks saddle with the hole in it about 2 years ago on a Specialized Tri-Cross, which is essentially a road bike with bigger tires.
Followed the given instructions on using their saddle conditioner.
For me it was comfortable almost immediately which I understand is the exception. I prefer it to the rather generic seat on the urban bike I also use.

However, I restrict my individual rides to something less than 20 miles, in about an hour and a half on all flat terrain (no standing to go up hills as an example.)

Got out for a ride around the countryside today. What it lacks in elevation changes it makes up for in wind. Lol

A Klein was my dream bike back when I was in high school and now that I’m a grown adult I still can’t afford a restored one :D
