Rely on the reports alone? No. However, they are a useful tool, especially when purchasing a truck far away. Used in conjunction with a third-party mechanic's inspection, ECM dump, etc., I have used them to save a lot of money and a lot of headaches.

Well they likely wouldn't have any knowledge of a repair that didn't go through insurance.

IIRC, any reported accident, regardless of insurance disposition is supposed to be in the report.

Somebody smashes it up in the yard n fixes themselves, real amateur-like.

That’s the first example comes to mind that it wouldn’t show up on anything but a inspection done by someone that knows what they’re looking at.

A friend's company truck (19,000 miles on it) was hit by lighting. Company had it towed back and took a wreck truck gutted it for the wiring. And rewind his truck.. it was never right again

Carfax or rig dig would never show it

Bean Jr. and Lepton1 Thank this.

Most companies repair it in house... It depends on what kind of wreck if it was a dot reportable accident or not. If it was never reported how would rigdig know about it?

    flood and Tb0n3 Thank this.

The accident made it into CarFax report so somewhere there is a record. For some reason RigDig did not pick it up.

I contacted the people at RigDig and told them about the situation. They have the CarFax report and they are investigating why it did not show up on their report. They also refunded me for the report, so I give them credit for at least trying to get to the bottom of this.
