Howdy folks. I recently decided I'd like to get my CDL and start driving for a living. I used to ride with my grandpa during the summers when I was a kid. He used to haul big rolls of steel around the midwest, Chicago, Des Moines, etc. I always enjoyed being on the road.
However, my situation is a little different. I'm only 31, married, and have two young kids. She doesn't work, and I need to be around to help raise my boys. Although I am prepared to pay my dues if necessary by having a crap schedule for a year or whatever, as long as it isn't permanent. I live in west central FL at southern mouth of the Sunshine Skyway.
I'm looking for some help getting pointed in the right direction by some seasoned citizens here as far as the best place to get my CDL, and employment choices after that. I'm currently unemployed with 0.00 savings, of course, so cost of CDL is a major factor. I lost my sales job last week, and am tired of working a job that I despise at every level. I'm not getting any younger and want to start doing something that I love. Driving.
Anyway, I'll shut up now and hopefully some of you have something to say to me.
Regards,
Blake
