That looks like one of those instances I mentioned where 3 LEFT turns would have been a better approach to the situation.

That is --- go past the RIGHT turn another block or so, make a LEFT turn -- go another block or so and make another LEFT turn -- another block or so to the street you wanted to turn right on and turn LEFT again. Now, you're on the street you want -- and only have to go through the intersection.
So easy, even a caveman could do it. :biggrin_25525:

Yeah, its easy if you know the streets. What if you make that left turn and next thing you know you see a 12 ft bridge staring at you?

LMAO@ Aftershock for the Caveman joke! That does sound very wise BUT LongbedGT has a good point also. Catch 22 maybe? Ahhh, hell with it. They shouldn't put those #### poles and crap so close to the curb's anyway. "Swing wide, it's gonna be a tight ride!"

Well, it's been my experience that streets with low clearances are marked near the intersection with yellow signs indicating that height restriction. Keeping an open eye of the area should also give a hint if there might be low clearances.
    Hail!
If y'all have to drive an additional few blocks before making a left turn, isn't it better than what the Schneider driver did while ATTEMPTING to make a right turn on THAT street?

You could even go a couple of blocks farther past the street you wanted to turn right on, make a left -- another left -- and another left -- then a right on the street you were on, making the street you WANTED, a left turn.
Or even a U-turn somewhere, again making the street you wanted a left turn.

SOMEtimes, we have to think OUTside the box. I'm not saying it will ALWAYS work, just suggesting there might be better alternatives to turning right -- and taking out poles and light posts. :biggrin_25524:

I guess I'll have to start referring to my wide turns as jug handles. You mentioned that one may encounter traffic on the street you are turning on to. Isn't traffic always at the crosswalk line on the street you are turning on to? I think I would be fired if I had to force cars to back up because I didn't negotiate the turn correctly, thus the forum's definition of a button hook is a recipe for disaster.

I enjoy doing that to the occasional moron that insists on stopping past the stop line.

I was making a right hand turn awhile back and had already nosed my tractor onto the street I was turning on when here comes this woman flying up to the intersection. Red light for her. I wandered now how did she not see me? I am kind of obvious.:biggrin_25523: Then I saw why cell phone in left hand; drink and steering wheel in right hand. She had couple fingers on the wheel and the rest clutching her drink. Did she back up? No; just drove up onto the curb and sidewalk.:biggrin_25522:

Yea, I'm really shocked at how people ever get their DL. I was shocked at what goes on in regular driving school's. Mine was a 6 hour course but only lasted 3 because the teacher was ready to get out of there. I'm just glad I am one of those who has "the touch" and driving came natural to other wise I would be horrible on the road. I've only had one accident and that's only because my ex ol' lady (fiance`) tore me completely apart as a human being so I was really in no shape to be driving. I got sent out to go drop off the bill's and stop by the local train/hobby shop to get a few thing's to try and make myself feel better but I ended up rear ending a woman. Funny thing is though, even though I wasn't in the right state of mind to be driving at the time it still wasn't my fault.

The lady in front of me decided to jump hard on her brake's and whip into a Long John Silvers parking lot. Didn't use a turn signal or give me any kind of warning at all and I was checking my mirror to get over for a split second and BAM! No one was hurt but if she hadn't kept on turning I would have parked her car in the dinning area for her. I think something fishy was going on though because her brakes would have locked up and I didn't hit her all that hard but she ended up in the parking lot hitting two other car's after going over a curb through the grass and hit two other parked car's. I was sitting half up on the curb with the back of the truck sitting in the road. Couldn't move it because the impact jammed up the tranny and the police was fixing to hit me with a "pay on the spot" tow fine which I didn't have but they said it couldn't stay there and I was like "Well duh, I know this." I kept on trying until I finally got it to go in gear then pulled in the parking lot. No one was injured and no ticket's were issued which I am thankful for.

It just goes to show not everyone is a bad driver even when they have their "times" but most of these people don't drive with any common sense at all. I wish they would write up $500 fines for driving while talking on a phone because those thing's are one of the top cause's for most wrecks. To busy yackin' and not paying attention to their driving. I'm also glad I'm extremely gifted for my multi tasking abilities to concentrait fully on both thing's fully at the same time but I don't do it just for safety's sake. If I need to use the phone, I pull over but I have a hand's free thingy that's make's it better that I got for free out of a company truck recently that another driver left behind. Brand new too. :biggrin_25520:
