Just exactly what do you own if you are leasing?

Yep, I own my business and am making payments on my truck to a finance company......like the majority of owner operators. Unless you have the title in your hand, that truck belongs to bank/finance company/whomever currently has title.

I'll rephrase the question, if a person is leasing a truck what do they own? in most cases there is a buyout (a chance to actually purchase the truck instead of renting it) so wouldn't you agree that if leasing you don't own a business?

A person who leases a building for their shop owns a business, yes?

You buy a truck from a dealership. You are making payments on it, so, therefore you are not an O/O. Bet you say I'm wrong on that point.

As been stated before, there is no ballon payment at JCT, with a lot of others, yes, but not here. You complete the payments, you get a free and clear title.

Anyways, I'm done wasting my breath. The program works for me and bunch of others. I'm happy and will have a fully paid truck in two years that I will continue to run. And FYI, I'm paying less for the truck here than at a dealership or through a bank just because of the lower interest rate. I couldn't get 10% through my bank or a dealership.

Owning a business is soooooo much more than whether or not you lease the vehicle or not. In your own business, YOU make all the decisions, not someone else. I decide where, what, when, how I work, purchase, maintain and relax, etc. JCT does not do that for me.....that I promise.

@MachoCyclone , love the building analogy. Hits the nail on the head imo.

The way I view an O/O is someone who has their own authority, contracting their own freight.

That's just the way I view it though, having done both I never considered myself an owner op when I ran under the other guy's authority, with his name and DOT # plastered on the sides of my truck.

You may be self employed but you are far from a business owner. Most trucking companys with a lease purchasr are nothing more than predatory lenders, waiting for you to fail so they can lease it again to another "business owner"

No one said leasing was easy however this does sound like another driver getting screwed by big business.

I'll allow your opinion to go as is, but you are speaking from second hand source, unless you have been here and can actually understand my previous post.

I will concede that not all leasing programs are the same, however this one is pretty hard to screw up. Now if you were at JCT and failed, it wasn't because of them, that I guarantee.

If you have never been with a particular company, you realistically cannot input facts about that company because you were never at that company. Everything you say is an OPINION, not fact.

There's more to his story than he posted. They won't force you out of a truck unless you owe the company money for maintenance. They do allow you to go into the negative and will allow you to climb out. If that particular truck keeps going in the shop and accruing bills, as a business themselves, JCT allow only so much before they say enough.
