Hey that's great! Do you think it's easier for someone with years of experience and a clean record? Also, what do you think the % of turnover is now vs. a couple of years back? I knew it to be well over 100% for the big carriers, do you think it's that high now since a lot of them are "cleaning house"?

A clean driving record is what keeps most carriers from doing a Larry Bird sky hook into the can with your application., especially for local jobs when they are weeding out the heard. Then experience is good, but in most cases only if it is recent experience when large corporate carriers are concerned maybe less to a degree when smaller outfits are concerned. But both like recent over distant.

The job hoping detriment that carriers warn you about is a myth to keep you at one company, because the fact is they all try to steal drivers from each other. 6mos to a year at most carriers will show you gave them a chance. Even the carriers know who is bad even if they do not say it publicly.

A newer red flag for carriers is your health and any history of workers comp. claims. Their insurance carriers don't like risk and have been taking it in the shorts on wall street so not as much money in the till. They will be passing on risks due to a history of bad health, injury payouts or accident claims.

It is my belief that as long as there is fuel to put in the rigs and you keep your driving record and health good, you will always have a job somewhere as a driver.

great post, blue. and its very interesting about the workmans comp claims, is that pretty much a solid fact? that in itself will keep some people from working in the industry. how far back do they go on that? personally i dont have a problem cause i've never stubbed a toe at work but there will be others who are interested in your response.

If a application asks you if you have been on workers comp before , you can bet it is not for just survey purposes. Personal debt, bad credit, child support, to many garnishments all can keep you from turning the key on a new ride.
Probably as far back as they can get the info. Your work history is 10 years of driving or 3 not driving, but drivers here say they have been turned down for things that happened 20 years ago.

So, in your learned opinion, you think a bad credit rating would apply also? There are so many out there who probably have bad credit ratings and some probably aren't even aware of it.
