They could , I remember yrs ago Wyoming was doing that and writing up some of them $500 driving awards.

Pretty sure they still do, I know I was taught.

Just because someone was taught and passed a test doesn't mean they learned though.

Look how many don't understand HOS which I guarantee all were taught.

Just was assigned a new truck. And it's in pretty good shape all new drive tires and good steers. Had one of the mechanics check the break pads, he said they still have some life left. I need to get some measuring device just for pads. They look like they just clear a 1/4 inch to me. I'm sure I will find out when big brother waves me into the inspection barn.

If they look as if they will just clear the bare minimum of 1/4 inch then I wouldn't operate the vehicle. Because more than likely it'll be another 50,000 miles before the company says the service is due. Just because it's barely legal now doesn't mean it will be in a month. I'm just not completely sure about your attitude, kinda scary knowing your out here on the road with the mindset of " it looks close to legal, not sure, guess I'll just wait till DOT inspects it to know for sure". Sorry but that kind of thinking gets people killed. Especially with faulty brakes. I wonder how the judge will rule in the case against you from the family of that mother, father, and 3 kids in the minivan you rear ended at 60 mph because you thought your brakes looked legal? Sorry for picking on you but you need to take an 80,000 lb vehicle more seriously.

got a question. an old timer said, with slack adjusters, be on level ground, brakes released and depress foot pedal 3 times firmly will help. sounded like he was pulling my leg to me. any truth to it?

Says who? That's the only way to adjust them! Now maybe you shouldn't have to adjust them, but that's a whole different conversation.

It's true. Mash the pedal as hard as you can. That puts as much force on the auto slacks as possible and they should grab another click if they are a little loose
