You dont seem to be getting they are rebuildable. You dont need to replace them every 2 years. You need to rebuild them. If they were superior to normal shocks i wouldnt mind.

Look a little deeper at this and do some numbers ..... $1700 to buy a set (when I bought them a few years ago) or $2000 from what I'm hearing now and then $200 to rebuild them every couple or a few years and all the time to remove , reinstall , ship them $ to do all of this plus shipping costs , dealing with the lousy customer service. The ride is changed very little. What is the real point to all of this ? I would say the point is to make you feel like you have a real special truck and to continue selling stuff to make money off of you. I tried a lot of the Rutherfraud snake oil and the only point is to make others rich of of the drivers backs.

"Shock absorber" is a bad name for shocks as it tends to confuse most people. A shock absorber's job is not to absorb shock but rather to control spring oscillations. The best shock to date for this job is an oil shock.
Air pressurized oil shocks are best suited for racing applications. Using this type of shock is like adding additional springs.
Adjustable shocks are best suited for stiffer springs. Most are only adjustable on the rebound and if you adjust them on "hard" setting then your spring will not be able to recover as quickly after each bump.
Your factory shocks are designed around your springs and will work best.
As far as which brand is best I can tell you that when I was an auto mechanic I considered Monroe and Gabriel very low quality shocks.
Personally I replaced my front shocks with SACHS brand which are highly regarded in the automotive world and are OEM supplier for lots of manufacturers.
Wouldn't doubt it if they made Paccar shocks.TAfool, Studebaker Hawk, Crusader66 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Since I haul tankers, I replace my shocks every 6 months to a year. Last time I bought Gabriel and so far there fine. (Fleetpride didn't have 6 Monroe's or I would of bought Monroe)
I'd rather spend $250 every six months then $2,000 and not know if they'd last 2 years. -
Crusader66 Thanks this.

This thread brought to a head my need to replace my shocks. Today I am sitting in a chase car to go drive an oversize load, and one of the drivers started talking about Road King shocks as a rip off. He uses Monroe.
All five drivers replace their shocks every six to ten months. Our company has a lot of off road. Everyone used Monroe and replaced their shocks as part of their regular PM.
How much down time are you talking with rebuilding Road King shocks? I lose about $800 a day sitting and waiting for repairs. Buying a new set of Monroe's and installing them myself seems to be a better use of time and money.OLDSKOOLERnWV, TallJoe, ChicagoJohn and 1 other person Thank this. -
C'mon . 300 dollar shocks, and you gotta mail them back to have them "rebuilt".
Only Kevin Rutherford could pitch that kinda stupid. -
Remember the princess and the pea story? She grew up and drives a truck, she needs these miracle shocks, lol!
-
I can literally replace my shocks 6 times before I reach the price of road kings.
And who the he'll is Kevin Rutherford?Bean Jr. and Hoodoo Voodoo Thank this.
