try telling them, "but, sir, I've got a hot load or the weather is going to get and I got to go!".?

My few cents. I rented a pickup truck from Turo to move my own stuff and definitely didn't think about an ELD. My entire journey took less than 6 hours. In addition, I showed all the documents for the truck purchased from the car sharing service, as well as my medical examination. But it's not that. When I was taken out of action the weather was clear, but when I left there was a snowstorm. Of course, the was legal, and after 10 o'clock I drove home. But is the task of the DOT to monitor the routine or to ensure compliance with safety?

This is exactly what I am writing about here, but you were able to express it much more simply than I could.
The appeal system itself does not allow many of DOT's excesses to be appealed. Unfortunately, such complaints can only be appealed to the DOT and not in court.
