Where ever you end up , save . Do not count on a pension. Google Central States Pension Fund . Will be out of cash in 10 years , this after the "fix". If it's there when you retire great , but if you prepare and it's not there , you are still ok.

Sadly, that's the truth. Whether the pension funds are 'mis-managed' or the market goes belly-up and wipes out the investments. I appreciate the advice. I just started my Roth last year (wish I had started it when I turned 18), and I'll def be contributing to my 401k. If I stay in NJ, I'll have my house paid off by the time I'm 50, so I'll have a good solid 10 years of hopefully high earnings to save and invest leading up to my retirement in my mid-60s. Who knows, maybe I'll buy a duplex or two also just to have the rental income coming in. You're def right, in today's world, you can not rely on anyone but yourself for your financial well-being.

UPS has been out of the CSPF plan for WELL over 10 years. They have their own seperate plan called the UPS/IBT pension plan.....

    UPS/IBT Full-Time Employee Pension Plan - Q&A

There's two 401k plans. One for Non Union members (such as management) and one Union members. 401k for Union members I THINK is more of a ROTH plan, no matching rate...whereas Non Union does have one.

Company stock options...you'll get about a 5% discount...but stocks are iffy at best. It seems like whenever Amazon makes an announcement...stocks tend to drop temporarily. But UPS isn't going nowhere. They're just getting bigger and bigger due to E-commerce.
