This is suppose to be a place where someone can ask question about trucking, a simple 53 footer, would have been antiquate, Companies test with the trailers they pull, most of my test drives have been with loaded trailers.
Ok, thanks everyone. This is my first ever road test. I’ve never practiced with a 53’ trailer nor a loaded trailer at my CDL school. Wanted a heads up of what to expect.
The best advice I can give you is to try to stay relaxed. Hard to do without a couple shots of good whiskey. Also I would stress try not to oversteer when backing.
Ok. I can tell you the simple 53 footer is just a little more overhang like obese people trying to waddle backwards through a set of rotating doors because they do not see the delivery door around the side. Some things are just not meant to be seen, Im still trying to bleach my eyes. I started off with a 17 foot. Then a 20, then a 35 foot box. Then a nice 40, then 45. Finally the "BIG 48" I thought I was something then with that gigantic 48. Two extra pallets and ready to make money now. Whoo doggie. 53's showed up right about then. Now THEY were a pain to get adjusted to but we managed. Im not sorry for gently teasing a little bit my first post here. But Im not so old that I forgot the anxieties that newbies have in certain things trucking. I am nice enough not to laugh at the poor blessed heart trying to overcome that 53 footer. Believe it or not... the bigger they get, the longer they get makes them actually EVEN MORE SWEETER to dock. They could be 200 feet, and with a leverage like that you could dock it on a bible as long you had a line painted 8 feet in florescant colors to line up on while docking.
