Nothing there allows speeding. Just says you have to be passing and not imped traffic. If you are at the speed limit you might be impeding traffic yes, but it still doesn't allow one to speed.
Rock in the stream: the Safety Dept. lied to you!

Signs in VA say trucks operated below 70mph use right lane.

I can also understand some people's mentality of riding the center lane here in PA. Usually the right lane resembles that of a road in a third world country with all the frost heaves

Laws are contradictory and sometimes foolish. For example

Going slower is always safer.
I first started driving with CR England and was written up once for going above 70 MPH on I-80 in Wyoming. It was summertime and the speed limit was 75. Hitting the brakes constantly on those long steady hills instead of coasting at 75 with the jakes on was just flat out stupid and unsafe.
Good luck telling that to a low level white collar manager.
In the oilfield, the safety guys are mocked and recognized as usually the dumbest paper pushers on the pad and only looking to cover their own ### . How do I know they are worthless? Whenever there are layoffs the safety guys are the first to get cut and the last ones to get hired back.Last edited: Nov 23, 2022

When I went to CDL
School the instructor was always telling the students to look in the mirrors every 8-12 seconds .
he would hold up his clipboard to block the drivers view of the passenger mirror and hit the stopwatch , and time how long before the student said something about not being able to see the mirror .
And some students were over five minutes .
he would lean over and lay his clipboard over the gauges and ask how much fuel you had . Or what’s the air pressure ,
Or what was the last mile marker or last exit , or wait till a oncoming vehicle passed and then asked what color it was etc
you had to correctly answer most time , or it affected your score , and if you simply couldn’t remember to look in the mirror every ten seconds , you might not pass the class.
They were pretty insistent that the students they turned out were competent.
And they had no problem failing students who couldn’t meet the minimum requirements .
a dinguss instructor does none of those things.Another Canadian driver, ‘Olhand and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
Simple fact is that just because you have to be passing in the left lane doesn't mean you can speed legally. It simply means that if you aren't passing you need to stay out of that lane.Magoo1968, Another Canadian driver, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this. -
