Tell me more bigblue19. I am right now, mid-feb, in the process of getting on with Roehl and utilizing the Honor Program. Where else can I get a guaranteed $600 a week plus $1000 a month tax free starting out and not have to go OTR? Salary pay may not be that great per week, but the thing everyone keeps leaving out in this discussion is the extra $1000 per month from the G.I. Bill tax free. I think that will pan out any way you look at it, and I agree with the fact that I may get paid low per hour if calculated that way, but I'm a trainee. I will take this experience and move on to a local farmer after I'm sure I have the time in to be insured by their company. It looks like it will be a great start.

I think its simply shameful, dishonorable, and terrible how companies like Werner and Roehl go after former soldiers and veterans. At the same time any soldier or human for that matter with a brain knows to look into any career change, weighing the pros and cons of a particular job.

Its about time new drivers start realizing that there are alternatives to these 1000+ or 10000+ truck outfits that step on people as they see fit.

When I went to Tech School ( A far better alternative to marrying yourself to a company with their so-called "paid training"), Recruiters from Werner, Schneider, Swift, Ashley and Roehl came. And also a recruiter from a little outfit called Monson Trucking, HQ'd in Duluth, MN.

Monson was the only company that was straight up and honest about working for them. The recruiter did not sugar coat or bend the truth about anything. And they were far from perfect, but I grossed just under $50,000 my first year there. And I was home EVERY WEEKEND. This from 2003-2004. Yes their trucks are slow but reliable. Almost all the drivers there were very helpful and knowledgeable to newbies. It was not the greatest job in the world, but a good place to start.

This is just one example, people. Open up yor eyes!
