Ex-drivers don't always make for great dispatchers. Just like college grads aren't always the best. One of the better dispatchers there started in the shop before coming into dispatch. Great attention to detail, got his drivers home and great miles. Had very few situations where drivers were unhappy for reasons that he could actually control, taught drivers what to do, fought for them when they were right and getting hassle from other departments. On the other hand I've seen former drivers that just went the route of "there is nothing I can do about it". Knowing what battles to fight and how hard to push is more the key to being a good dispatcher.

 

Meltom is right. A driving background does help, but I've found it only helps for a little while. Eventually that experience is usually forgotten as the new job settles in. It nature, and how it works.

 

Does the gary terminal sell any company clothing?

 

Mostly hats. Only thing I've gotten there anyway.

they sell most online..Roehl is efficient, don't give much out..a stick on calendar. good news with this is I really don't fear Roehl going under anytime soon and paycheck is like clockwork.

they also don't bug you about appearance..if u do your job and behave in an adult fashion you can happily be yourself there.. fat, skinny, short, tall, color, sex...I've never seen any discrimination or disrespect there.
