I used to go by there a lot. Took my wife a couple of times and she posted about it in her blog.

    I got the same call.

When I had my truck in the shop they completely removed the fifth wheel indicator lights from the dash. Sounds like that's the fix. Let's not get the manufacturer involved. This wasn't such a frequent problem with the old style.

I always check mine by looking, but it still feels weird not to have the indicator on the dash.

Get a good flashlight, like one from Streamlight. I have a Protac 2L that is amazingly bright and keeps nicely on my belt or in a pocket. It's especially handy in the day time when my vision is not so good under a trailer and this baby really lights it up.

Drive back into the trailer and feather the clutch while popping the parking brake to make sure the latch can move freely. Then pull the handle out and push it in a few times. That should do it. If not, definitely call maintenance. I just had mine worked on because it wouldn't stay released and I couldn't hook a trailer without using bungee cords.

I'm thinking about getting some marking fluid and marking mine when I know it's set right. Relying on a mark in the rust doesn't seen like a very accurate method.

I looked at it this morning in the dark with my flashlight and it was fine. The daylight must have just shined on it perfectly to make it look shiny.
Gary for the night. Off to Ohio to drop tomorrow.

Sitting at Lowe's in Springfield, IL where I was just unLOWEded. Waiting on my next one, am scheduled to end up in Marshfield tomorrow where I'm turning in my truck. Roehl has been a great experience but I'm going to take a year or so and do some non-trucking business development. Hint: it's related to my handle. :)

jeepnut_nh, DirkSteel, Bayle and 3 others Thank this.
