The main thing I care about in a truck stop is that it's quite at night. I learned to park as far away from the fuel island and the interstate as possible. If there is shade, all the better, I'll park there. Showers are nice, but only if I have a credit. I have wipes if no such amenities are present. I usually sit in the truck even if there's a lounge inside the truck stop and listen to the comedy stations on sirius and browse the interwebz. That's one of the reasons I want a a w900 with the 86" studio sleeper because that couch would be so sweet to have.
FWIW ~ Oversize permits (the majority of the time) are truck specific...If they have to relay an OD load off, it means a new set of permits have to be ordered from each state.
Thanks for that. Didn't realize there was such a paper trail. I don't think I'd want to mess with the hassle of such loads myself.
Yes. You are correct. The permits are to the truck as well. It's a hassle, but the money is good. An extra 9cpm. Permit delay pay, layover pay. This load is going to pay me around $600 for 4 days. It would be better if I didn't get held up at the scale. Would have been able to deliver yesterday, but wouldn't have gotten the delay or layover pay. I know that doesn't really sound like much considering if I got to drive a 550 mile day, I'd be making 190 a day, but most my days are only 300 miles due to the constant short runs and long load/unload time.
At Marshfield tonight. Turned in Magicarp and picked back up beserker valkarie. Truck feels foreign to me now. But feels nice.
New jersey ... Looped around NYC today, student loved it. Missed the 1-9 to 81 to the turnpike on our Roehl tollsaver(tm) route....and even saved more tolls. Garmin to the rescue..
Appleton Saturday AM, got new steers, bunk AC and air leak fixed, radar and headlights adjusted. Then took a driver to the bus station that had just been fired by Roehl. She'd hit a pole and fire hydrant in her first six months. Plus was late several times and her steers had a belt showing when she came in for PM. She thought it wasn't fair, but she already had 5 offers in the twelve hours since she'd posted it on facebook so she'll be driving for someone next week. Picked up in Green Bay for Cincinnati and made it home to Columbus early this morning (600 mi.) as load delivers Monday afternoon. Skipped a fuel stop in Gary as I had 3/4 tank and took 294 as traffic was backed up downtown and I never would have made it. I'll see what the ramifications are Monday...may be at a bus station soon myself.
Well speaking of bus stops, talked to Irish the other day. He is now pulling doubles for saia out of Nashville. He is moving up the ladder, home more, more $$$. I'm certain that his experience at Roehl prepared him well for the upgrade to doubles. Its just me and u OSU.
Been off for the past two weeks and re-launching Monday. Up to Marshfield to pick up a newly assigned Prostar+ and then back on the road.
