Tell them you will if they put a APU and a inverter on the truck (free), oh and can't forget.. a $1,500 bribe. I think they will do it.

Van or Flat? I've had to sit, but that was because they were looking for loads home. The runs I did get, weren't bad. Though the weekends off seem kinda screwy but aslong as they make up with miles I'm happy.

P.S: I'm finally home! (Thanks to my bad #### FM, he is a great guy!)

If you are sitting too much it can be explained down to one of four things. (maybe more, but I am simplifying)

    1. Freight is just slow. Not sure this one is the issue.... :biggrin_25512:
    2. Your FM doesn't think you can do more. Talk to your FM and tell him you are sitting too much. Your FM's pay is based on how you do. The less you do, the less he/she gets paid.
    3. You aren't pushing the loads. I.E., If it says you have two days to go 500 miles, ask or beg to deliver early. Then call the shipper and deliver anyway. :biggrin_25520:
    4. A little bit of all three!

Flush, I don't sit. And when I do, I complain. And when they give me loads that I can do faster than they plan, I do it faster. Never settle for your "scheduled" time on Flatbed loads. Very few places that we go will turn you away from being early. (Except for construction type jobs or jobs that require cranes.)

Case in point, I had a load last week that was 700 miles and I was given 2 FULL days to get their and then deliver the third day. I delivered it on the second day, 24 hours early. The load I am on now, 750 miles and 3 stops with final being on Wednesday morning. Picked up today, delivered 1st stop, will deliver second stop at 0730 and then final stop by 1500. 18 hours before they wanted me to be finished. If you don't "push" the planners, they won't "help" you.

Also, if you are sitting too much, especially on the weekends, for over 24 hours. RUN like crazy to get within 50 miles of the shipper and then claim layover pay. Anything over 24 hours gets you $60 and then over 36 hours gets $120. (if my memory serves me correct.) Anytime I get a short run on a weekend, I will run like crazy to get as close as possible to that Monday delivery so that I can claim Layover. Is it as much as actually driving, NO, but it is money for sitting.

Trucking, like life, can be considered a GAME, you have to play to win or you will lose!

My two cents, hope that helps.

It's the planners, for instance I am sitting under a curtain that is 1K over gross, even a dumb driver like me knows you can't put 46k plus on a curtain and pull it with a flatbed tractor and be under gross, I knew it was a problem before I deadhead 225 miles to get here, plus I had to switch my step for this curtain on the way. Now I am sitting here while they figure out what to do......going on 17 hours now

I always run hard, never been late, almost always early. I do pull flats, have been for a year. I don't know what the problem is, but it has been going on for a month and a half, I thought is was slow frieght at first, and I know the planners know I keep the left door shut. I have put in for layover for the past three weeks but it ain't the same pay as driving. I haven't burned my 70 in over a month. I was running East coast to West coast, short runs were 700 miles, now I haven't seen a run over a 1000 in months. I seem to get crap runs and messed up loads.

At International Dealer in La Crosse...guess what issues with the Pro-Star. Blower fan in dash quit (no A/C)...and auto start system works intermitenly. Was supposed to be back to Phoenix today or early tomorrow....not happening till early Fri. THAT IS IF THEY CAN FIND ME A LOAD. Told me freight is light going west!

Man..... Shame of it is, your the one losing out. That planner still getting paid, customer service still getting paid, but you. Making a whooping 60$ for 36 hours?! Who has 36 hours in their day? Can anyone explain that to me. Roehl isn't going to lose on that load because they are going to charge the customer for the problem. As for the 1k over gross. They'd be taking that crap off my trailer.

I don't know how the whole planners part work, but maybe yours got changed? I've always wondered how that worked.
