I would honestly have to say, it's often an issue. and the problem feeds into itself, making it worse.

Roehl *can't* pay trainers what their worth, so they *don't* pay enough. The Drivers they do want to be trainers, aren't willing to subject themselves to "Here's your randomly picked roommate," which means there are fewer trainers, since there are fewer trainers, and people who need to be trained, the trainers are always training, so the good trainers that they do have, get burnt out quickly, shortening the trainer roster even further.

Roehl has a habit of setting very high standards and expectations for people, (not just drivers) then offering a negligible amount of compensation, and asking for volunteers. the longer no one bites, it's the standards that are lowered, rather than the compensation raised.

    Their hoping someone will bite.

I would have had to wait a week at home with no pay waiting on a trainer. So I decided to go with a smoker. I actually didn't mind since my dad smokes and it reminded me of home to be honest. Plus it was a bonus he was a lease purchase driver with roehl and cool as hell. He let me drive how I felt comfortable, I don't drive the way people say you should. I'm not hanging half my body out the window but I'm not at 10 and 2 either.

That's why I don't want to be a trainer, I know my abilities but I'm not willing to trust my truck and load with a trainee. No offense intended, just saying in general. I'm sure id get a great student but I have zero patience. You start grinding gears left and right and not paying attention to signs and I'll end up a story in the bad section where a trainer kicked the trainee out of his truck lol.

Thanks for the info, not what I really want to hear but, better to know the deal so that I can deal with it. Open question. Does anyone know if there are any trainers that live in Florida or Georgia, I'm just shaking the tree to see if anyone is there. 2nd question as far as tractors, what brand are we buying and how old/beat up are the ones we are replacing

I'm sure there are plenty of trainers. Mine was from my hometown, but he no longer works for roehl.

We have 2011-2013 Freightliner cascadias and international proatars. We also have a few volvos and new kenworth t660's.

Their replacing the old 2007 Columbia's which are slowly being sold off. The only thing about the beat up is its hit n miss as far as if you get a Columbia that's been taken care of or one that's been abused.

umm yup, once upon a time they told the office staff that responsible companies are going to stop giving their employees raises. The ironic thing is during the 4 years I worked at Roehl my wife got more money in raises than I earned there.

Beat up isn't the word for it. Lack of attention, errrrr *proper* attention to the mechanicals. Such as, marshfield will replace broken things on a dime without a thought. But ellenwood or Gary will patch the issue and make it worse because your truck is to old to do the work that is needed.

Gary, Ellewood. My two favorite terminals to take a poop at. Why? Because that is all you get in return.

Don't be scared off though, all you have to do is use your voice and stand up and things get done. Lesson learned the hard way.

I am at home, a day early and two days short! What does that mean? Sat for 4 hours waiting for a driver to relay with on Wednesday. Funny thing was, I was closer to the shipper than he was, but he picked it up and then we met at the S. Beloit J. OK, new driver who hasn't been home in 3 weeks so I'll take one for the team. Deliver my load on Thursday in Lester Prairie, MN. Dead head to Owatonna. Cool, gonna pick up a CAT load. Get there, nothing loaded that is going out. Talk to the local driver who is loading. Five loads going out, Five drivers coming in, ZERO ready. At least I am the 2nd driver there. :biggrin_25511:
So about an hour later chatting with the local driver, might want to call your FM, you are getting load #5. GREAT! Call him up. So since I live close, I.E. in MN and I am going home this weekend, four loads should be ready, but the 5th is questionable. I get the questionable one. So I help load the first 3 trucks so that they can get moving. OD loads with weekend restrictions in MN and WI. To make a long story short, 22 hours later, go ahead and go home. :biggrin_25516:

So to recap, lost 4 hours on Wednesday. Lost 6 hours on Thursday. Lost 9 hours Friday. Lost all day Saturday, when I was scheduled to be home. 15-20 potential driving hours LOST to never get back and all I got out of it was $30 for half a day of layover. :biggrin_25512:

Anyone know a good company in Minnesota? I know ATS, but I want to be home weekly, if not daily. Daily is optional. Flatbed would be my preference.
