we have an illegal run hauling overweight (NOT oversize) cat log grapple/debarkers from prentice to a customer in alabama. the tow aways are 81,000 pounds with 43,000 pounds on the tandems (not spreads), which is illegal in tennessee, period end, always, no exceptions.
they gave me one of them-- without the tennessee permit-- and when i called from the kentucky border what they sent me was a tennessee permit that specifically stated that the 20,000 pound axle limit was not waived. when i called, i was told that my routing would take me around the scales, and that if i was ticketed on the route, roehl would pay the fine, so long as i was stopped on the route they assigned me.
going around tennessee would add some 250 miles to the trip, and three more permits, i think, and the decision makers at roehl chose to run outlaw instead. i've talked to other drivers, and this was not the first time we've done this run.
i went ahead and took the load, but after thinking about it realized that it was a stupid thing to do, and told my FM i wouldn't do it again. she was surprised to hear about it too.
you can't cross tennessee on sunday oversize (you can, overweight) and i drove through the state on sunday like an idiot with my OD flags and banners out. because you don't have to flag and banner an overweight load in tennessee, i was just asking to be stopped by a cop who would want to know why i was driving sunday oversize. that would have been a quick trip to the scale. luckily the two cops i passed were otherwise occupied.
never again. -
Treefork Thanks this.

Now at the TA in Baltimore for layover prior to Monday morning delivery of a giant piece of machinery I got yesterday on a relayed
53' step deck from Gary. It will go to the port then on a ship to India next month. Had to fix the tarp a few times to keep it from flapping so much. After delivery, home for a few days. -
