Perhaps you would be willing to share some specifics of your floating technique... Engine speeds (rpm), Road speeds (mph) for shifting, etc. Thanks.

Sure, I'll try to remember lol. I don't watch my gauges much when shifting anymore now that I can actually gear my engine haha.

I shift different when loaded vs empty.

When I'm empty I start in 4th gear and bring it up to about 900rpm then it slides out and goes right into 5th. I go till about 1200rpm then jump over to 6th. I go a little higher in 6th cuz going across the shifter and through the spring allows the rpms to drop a little better. From 6th I progressively shift, sort of.

In 6th I go to 1200rpm, then to 7th, go to 1250rpm, then to 8th, go to 1250rpm and go to 9th. In 9th I go to about 43mph then shift to 10th. I say 43mph cuz its above 40 but below 45. This seems to work for me as far as smooth shifting goes. When I float you'll notice I stay low in the rpms when empty.

    When loaded:

Loaded I start in 3rd, depending how heavy, let's say I'm 79k gross weight. I go up to about 1300rpm and jump to 4th, I say jump to 4th because going from 3rd to 4th while heavy sometimes slows the truck down to fast and I grind into 4 if I don't shift fast. Then I go to about 1350rpm and go to 5th. I bring it to about 1400 rpm and go to 6th. From 6th on I bring every gear to about 1350-1400 rpm and when I shift it drops the rpms to about 1100 which seems to be a good sweet spot.

I hope this helps a little bit. I'll get a better look at what my gauges are doing when I get loaded in a few hours. I don't have anything to mount my camera on or else id get a dash view of driving and what my gauges are doing.

Like BIGLEE said. Take your time on the Atlas. Pain in the butt but do it and just drive like you know how. If you made it that far you are in!!

At a rest area near Hays, KS. Headed to Memphis for Friday morning, then to Atlanta for Saturday morning. 1500+ mile load coming out of the house, that probably means I'll have some nice little BS loads on Sat. and Sun. LOL
