At the pilot near South Bend. Started the day at HQ, then delivered to Joliet, IL by means of the most convoluted secondary road hell I've gotten in recent memory. Barely touched an interstate. chewed up all but an hour of my 11 and went 400 miles today. Pretty sure I hit no less than 100+ red lights. Thanks opti-stop

Well the customer noted they wanted it there ASAP. Had I taken I-39s to i-88e to us-30e like any sane person would do, they could have had it 2 and 1/2 hours sooner and I could have looked like a #### hero x/

Next time you get a crazy route like that run it by fm. 100 lights uses more fuel than it would cost to run the toll roads over. :)

So after I parked truck in Richfield, wi and took a 2 hr break to cool off. Ignoring message and phone call... Finally called in and talked with FM. He researched issue a little, ya, a 14 year old trailer probably shouldn't have 40k sitting belly loaded when its not designed for that. He took all info and passed it up the chain. Told him, from the drivers I talk to, that doesn't matter. We complain about the Gary local drivers all the time and seems that their FM ignores it.

I told him, I got nothing against them, Ive chatted with most of them, but they are in a hurry and do things the fastest possible way, with NO repercussions when we pick up their messed up loads.

I did get a msg before he left saying it seems I started something and it was moving. We'll see. Maybe it was the 10 times I used "SAFETY" as my concern in my message. :biggrin_25522:

I hope it does solve some issues, but I'am not holding my breath. I still want to stay far away from there. Everytime i end up in gary they want me to pick up a relay. Its either ####tly secured or i got to deal with the equipment nazi's not want to give me equip i don't have on the truck i need.

yeah the safety word gets there attention. If it goes farther than that who knows. Even if they local guys were cool to talk to and knowing them, everyone no matter what position should be accountable for what they do. Just seems that it's jus the driver I think that maybe it is. Like last time out I deadheaded 258 miles for a load that was cancelled 3 weeks prior. I bet if the money I lost on tha trip went out of someone else's responsible paycheck less instances of that happening wouldn't occur. I wonder if other people at Roehl besides drivers are accountable for their mistakes, or take pay cuts for mistakes or losing their job. Or a tongue lashing from their superiors for ##### up. To me you did the right thing to do from the messages and the load. Let them figure out the details you worry about safety of u and others. That's a cornerstone of Roehl right...

The most you can do is bring up safety. Otherwise it's yours regardless. One thing I will suggest to all you flat bedders is to take pictures and email them to your FM or directly to safety. Once drivers start getting in the habit of sending them emails telling them it's done incorrectly or not even legally then they will make changes.

Half of the times the coils aren't secured to Roehls policy of "+1". And I am a firm believer and going above and beyond in safety of my loads. So I'm always adding securement to their loads. Just sucks having to redo something that takes less then 15 minutes extra to do.

Also I'm not saying yell or complain to safety directly, those ladies I've dealt with in safety are pretty awesome and always are happy to help resolve issues. But if it comes to a safety issue with a trailer bowing that badly, call them.

Also side note, won't help unload trailers at a terminal again. Figured I'd be nice and help the guy unloading those triple stack trailers by hooking to one and dragging it off since that columbia he was using didnt have ramp, as soon as I did I ripped a dang mudflap off. So had to get that rebolted on.

I found out when the mechanic tells me "you know your missing your right mudflap right?" My first response was "it was on when I came in.." Then it hit me like a bag of rocks.

Other then that, had them weld alittle on the headache rack to fix a crack, do a CAC test which came back clean, and other then that the truck had a clean bill of health. So great night!
